PPP End of Module Evaulation

End of module Evaluation
PPP
0UGD602

Throughout this module I have been have constantly been working and researching to the style of my design. I have interacted with various sectors of the design world to try to gain a professional relationship and used various techniques to grab professional attention.
I believe this year my PPP module has become of more importance. Doing presentation has really helped my professional practice. I went to various interviews, open days, talks etc and tried to portray these communication skills that PPP taught us. I think that the module as a whole has stimulated a good body of research and information on design that has really inspired me personally and through my design work.

I have learned communication, management, organization, and presentation skills through out this year, which allows me to be confident for the outside world. I think I do however need to work on my commination skills when talking about my work and briefs to the professional world.

I feel that this module has continue to keep me interested and informed about design which has become more prevent as my design started to change and confidence started to grow.

This module has allowed me to experience various types of research and inspiration design and really made me research design studios that are relevant to my work. It’s a good documentation process as it highlighted the change in studios and changes in work that I had.

Overall this module had been a beneficial experience that has allowed me to get professionally ready to start work in a studio that focus around commercial and culture sectors and involves layout digital and branding design.

Live Brief Professional Relationship Summary - Evaulation

Elmwood

Completing this brief allowed me to do a professional presentation pitch to the designers at elmwood. Although i didn't win I thought it was an amazing experience that really allowed my confidence ti grow. Since then they have been back to do portfolio surgeries and it was great that they remembered my name and work so was really goo dot receive feedback ageing. I feel that Ive made a quite good connection with a few of the designers there that would db useful to get tops on my work etc!

Interested

From the 1st hand research I i completed for this brief i got in touch with various designers and studios such as food& and laura dock rill. I thought this was effective practice and allow due to make contacts Although i didn't show them any work i conducted interviews and personally got in touch and it taught me a great deal.

Work in Progress

Working with other students and professionals allowed me to see how certain aspects are created within an exhibition. It was also good to see who contributed within the class - to gain connections outside of uni.

DR.ME

Although I didn't really enjoy this brief, nor what DR.ME design - I do think that it taught me a great deal about the professional world. iT ALLOWED ME T SEE HOW HARD IT IS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH PEOPLE and to figure out printing products. It was good to experience a different ape of brief and design though - just to reassure my method of deisgn.

Live Brief that have influenced my relationship with the professional world : INTERESTED NEWSPAPER

Brief : Editorial Publication

Rationale:

A few years back every blogger wanted a magazine theme, now, trends have changed, and ‘print’ - is back.
Online resources are useful, quick and easy. But printed magazine’s / publications are more specific to certain needs and allow creatives to gain inspiration not only from the context but also from the physical touch and aesthetic feel of a magazine / publication.
Although printed products are lacking in terms of technology and access, print reaches those who cannot gain access to the ‘latest trends’ online.

As part of an Idea’s to inspire young creative your aim is to create a monthly trend forecast magazine / publication for creative students and create ideas to inspire action within design.

Consider the latest trends in design, creative, food, film and TV to encourage more young people to become inspired within the creative network. Allow for showcasing of new talent and young creative ‘s to evolve a social networking database for designers through a ‘print’ concept.

Create a network via the magazine to connect creative ‘s through opinion on trend / new ideas.

Push the idea of inspiring action and create the monthly magazine / publication to promote creativity through young designers and creative ‘s.

As well a creating the magazine / publication, you need to create an extensive promotion program, aiming to reach the intended target audience in an inspiring and efficient way. Take into consideration price, themes, creative talents and ideas.

Processes:  Stock Consideration, Binding

Final Outcome:  74 page Newspaper + Website

Evaluation

Working with this brief really allowed me to work on my layout skills. The designs within the publication were varied to work with the concept. I really enjoyed this brief and worked hard on gaining a lot of primary research to inform my content. My skills in research developed a lot with this brief as the content was driven by primary sources. It also helped to introduce me into the professional world and taking interviews, which really made my confidence, grow in terms of professional aspects.

I used various design processes to figure out the best method of printing and stock consideration. I thought this would take time ad it allowed me to work on my concept also. I feel that the layout of the newspaper was defiantly strength within my design. I really enjoyed working with grid and mage/type to create a relevant and interesting concept and body of work.

I think I could of really improved my designs with more time. I wanted to expand the website section of the brief to give it clarity and create more web pages but it ran past my allocated deadline. I think this would have improved the brief and given it more depth. The colour scheme worked on both print and web, but again, I would like to develop this to see how it could be improved.

Live Brief that have influenced my relationship with the professional world : ELMWOOD

Brief  ‘Brand the Boring

Rationale:

‘Brand the Boring.’
Is a brief set my Elmwood Studio Leeds for LCA BA Hons Graphic Design students. The aim of the brief was to create a brand surrounding a chosen sector.
After being given a randomly selected word I then had to create a brand including the name and make it more interesting. The brief had to be completed as a 'quick turn around' so I had to go with some of the first ideas I generated.

Processes: Concept

Final Outcome:  Logo & Brand, Strong Concept, Presentation, Range of print products

Evaluation

This brief was a good brief to undergo as it reinforced my association with branding and concept design. I feel that this is where I started to turn as a designer in 3rd year and started to become more focused. The brief allowed us to generate creative concepts for ‘boring’ businesses. Initially I thought it would be quite difficult to create but after extensive research ideas and development started to progress.

Throughout this brief, although it was short I developed many skills that started to re-focus my design and my motivation. I learned skills in research, presentation and idea generation, which I believe, are all massively vital parts of design. I learned that extensive research can really help you to get to know you target audience and allows you copy and tone of voice to represent them. It also opens you up to colour schemes, ideas and develops you thinking. One of the objectives was to produce a presentation pitch, I thought this was very beneficial as it allowed me to prep and present to a professional client. The presentation was an effective way to produce a final outcome and to represent your ideas. This taught me to be confident and have belief in my work. I thought hat I applied these skills quite well and was picked to do a presentation. I thought this was a great brief to look at my idea generation and I feel that I applied it well to my design to focus the concept in a clever way adding personality and charter to the brand and making it ‘live’ rather then just being a logo.

I feel that my approaches to my design such as numerous brainstorms and design sheets really helped me to create my final outcome. This was effective as I could see all the stages of my design. I really wanted to focus on idea generation, and by doing design sheets you could clearly see my processes pattern.

If I had more time I would defiantly chose to focus more on this brief. We were given 1 week to complete the brief. I thought the time frame was appliance and represented of the professional world, which allowed me to really focus my idea. I thought the brief was great in allowing me to experiment with conceptual thinking and really push my ideas. I would develop the brief further and create more designs if I had the time but I think the overall presentation really was the final outcome for me and taught me a lot.

Live Brief that have influenced my relationship with the professional world : WORK IN PROGRESS

Brief : Work in Progress

Rationale:

To curate an exhibition that documents the work of BA HONS LEVEL 6 GRPAHIC DESIGN over a period of time. Aimed to inspire and portray the day-to-day work of a designer.

Processes:  Vinyl Print, Curatition

Final Outcome:  Ehibition, Windom vinyl

Evaluation

I really enjoyed this brief. It was a class collaboration but I had influence over window display and the building and dismount of the production and work. I thought this was an interesting way to develop my work as we monitored the processes via video go-pro. I thought the brief went well; it was one of my first experiences with vinyl so it was crucial part of my processes stage. I thought the final design of my vinyl worked well to inhabit the concept the exhibition was trying to display. The quote varied in stages and took time to set and crate. The processes of putting up the vinyl was quite tricky as it’s final placement was rendered to suit the concept and meant putting the vinyl on backwards to achieve this.

The overall event was a successes, I think it was a very useful brief to undertake as I improved my presentation and confidence skills. The brief helped me with my management, as I had to stay to take down and tidy up after the day’s events. The work I produced within that time frame also developed. This was an overall good experience but I feel that I should have embraced it more and started to play around with more ideas and concepts for the brief.

At first I struggled with my vinyl but after varied attempt its started to make sense. I believe that this is a weakness of mine by not trying lots of processes it often takes me a while to produce such things. I think this brief has taught me to become more open toward processes and the fact that mistakes will happen, it’s about learning from them that is the crucial part.

Final Images of my Personal Branding

I got a photography student to take photographs of my final PPP personal branding. I thought that to would make the design look more professional and relevant. I focused on the sections of my branding as it allowed em to see the varied elements. I also took final images of the promotion pack.

I used the vinyl cutter to cut out some letterforms porting an 's' shape but I used clear vinyl. I thought this would look effective on bright and dark colours of my work. I think that I need to create the letterform on a bright vinyl so i can attach it to the front of my promo pack.

The pack contains a poster, business card, postcards and my creative CV

The 'promo' pack

I tried to make the pack as bright as possible to grab the attention of Studios.
