10 things I have Learnt - Personally and Proffesionally

  • 10 things that you have learned about yourself as an individual and as learner. These should reflect your personal development and individual journey since the start of the programme.

  • 10 things that you have learned about yourself as a designer. These should reflect your growing awareness of your own interests within graphic design as a subject, discipline and profession.

TEN THINGS I HAVE LEARNT ABOUT MYSELF:

- I have found the whole moving to uni experience quite a positive transition and feel that i have coped with the change quite well. I feel that i have become a lot more independent and i can fend for myself. I have learnt a lot about myself as a person and Leeds is a great place to do this.

- I have also learnt a lot about my living standards. i have been quite independent in cleaning and effective in keeping the kitchen up to mark and cooking has become a unique and well deserve high five section for me. iM LEARNING FAST!
By doing this i have gained indepenceade with my money and have therefore been better at money management.

- I HAVE MANAGED MY TIME. I found this very difficult at first as i wanted to try everything and anything, but have realised that i have actually made time to clean and eat, go out and social whilst also trying to keep to up date with a lot of corse work which is demanding.

- I have been quite good with starting to build work outside of uni, i have set up a tumblr and twitter account which i feel is quite good to start putting some designs out onto the internet. I have also just opened up a new BEHANNCE PAGE WHICH IS very useful when it comes to people seeing my work and also viewing other derringers work which i can use as inspiration,

- Since starting this year i have also been more confident as a person. I have used my skills and pushed them so i could be myself and get my ideas and thoughts across in a positive and well mannered way.

- I have started working, i have a part time very small time, doing a bit of design work for a company. it only comes around when they need a lil extra work on something, so its not that much but this year i have created flyers and a poster for a company, this has helped me gain confidence in my design work.

- I have learnt to stop stressing and to chill out more. This is in all parts of my life. I am quite a laid back person, but when there is a lot of work building up amounts other things i tend to normally freeze out. THIS TIME HOWEVER i am quite glad that i have learnt how to relax a little, even though its only a slightly less, its still better.

- I have realised that i am an organised person. I seem to control my surrounding including my bedroom and my individual area in the studio etc. I feel that it has a positive effect on my and allows me to feel comfortable with work loads. i section everything off into folders and write a lot of lists to help me remember a lot of things also.

- I am dyslexic and this year i feel that i have done quite well in trying to push myself with this. I have been to student advice and other services to help me and also used their support.

- I have started collecting again. i normally collect only zones and newspapers and poster that i find visually attractive but i have now started to collect objects and i am amazed with the history and stories it has to offer. Leeds has a lot of good vintage shops whiCh is useful, because i seem to pend a lot of clothing na objects from these places.

10 THINGS I HAVE LEARNT ABOUT ME AS A DESIGNER:

- As a designer i have learned that i prefer to base my designs on simple and clean layouts which i get very inspired by. Learning about layouts has become one of my highs on this course. The use of simplicity  i feel aces a design more appeal and selects the most importance from the design, although i have learnt that it makes the work seem like less effort has been put into it.

- As a designer learning is a key tool, i feel that i have learnt that i much rather prefer working on smaller briefs such as 2 weeks deadlines. this is because i feel i can do a better job then with a 5 week deadline, as i wouldn't manage my time as professionally.

- I have also learned that structure and layout is a major section of my work. I seem to always keep things very strutted either vertically down ads or on a horizontal platform. i feel that this is a good way for me to learn, by experimenting.

- I have learnt that doing DESIGN SHEETS is a let element to getting to an idea and that an idea can always be changed. i feel that design sheets have allowed me to explore my design ideas a lot further then i would usually do when i would go straight into design. This is a tool that i will also use now.

- I feel that i have also become a lot more interested in a lot more design also. This is because e have been introduced into a lot of design sectors such as, web design // layout //

- i have also started to develop and play around with different styles of design to try and figure out what my 'style's. This is experimented through different techniques such as images , text , illustration, simplicity, type etc,

- MINIMALIST DESIGN IS THE BEST

- i have also leanrt a lot of software skills. i ama at the moment still using photoshop for all my design which i know is completely wrong so i know i need to work on illustrator skills. The use of finding out about illusrtarir and indesign has become very useful though.

- I have began to enhance myself by creating nine pages and submitting my work. This has really helped my confidence as a designer.

- I have had c chance to work with screen printing again and it is my favourite ape of printing and i del it works really well. I enjoy doing screen printing and feel that it is a god way to experiment.
